Free School Meals

From the start of the 2026 - 2027 academic year, all families must be reassessed for Free School Meals annually, even if your child currently receives them.  This change is being introduced to ensure that eligibility is assessed fairly and accurately each year, based on current household circumstances.  For those that currently receive Free School Meals, the Academy will automatically reassess their eligibility using the information submitted on the original application.

In addition to this, the eligibility criteria, specifically in regard to Universal Credit, is also changing from September 2026.  This means that your child may now be eligible for Free School Meals where they previously wouldn't have been.  If you believe your child is eligible, we strongly encourage you to submit an application, even if your circumstances have only recently changed.

Your child may be eligible for Free School Meals if you receive one or more of the following benefits:

  • Universal Credit
  • Income Support
  • Income-based Jobseeker's Allowance (JSA)
  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
  • Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
  • The guarantee element of Pension Credit
  • Child Tax Credit (provided you are not entitled to Working Tax Credit and your annual income is below the specified threshold)
  • Working Tax Credit run-on (paid for 4 weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit)

Please note that eligibility criteria are set nationally and may be subject to change.
