In addition - from September 2026, all children from households receiving Universal Credit will be eligible for Free School Meals.     A brilliant way for our Year 7 football team to bring the season to a close, with an emphatic 5-0 victory over Birches Head. The boys were outstanding from start to finish, playing with confidence, energy and real quality throughout the game. Their teamwork and determination were clear to see, and the result was a deserved reward for the hard work they have put in all season. This group has made tremendous progress over the year and should be incredibly proud of everything they have achieved. Ending the season on such a positive note gives us plenty to be excited about and we hope the players can take this momentum, belief and togetherness into next year as they continue to develop and improve.     Another year, another success! A huge congratulations to our Year 10 students, who have again shown outstanding dedication and commitment throughout their work placements. Not only did they put in tremendous effort with their placement providers, but they also made a positive impact on our wonderful school and local community. We are incredibly proud of the professionalism, enthusiasm and resilience they have demonstrated. Thank you to all of the businesses that have hosted placements and enhanced the experiences of our employees of the future!     This week Ofsted published its inspection report for Thistley Hough Academy. The report highlights our school for achieving strong student outcomes, where they feel a strong sense of belonging and are prepared for ambitious futures. They highlighted the academy's inclusive culture, ambitious curriculum and the particularly strong progress made by disadvantaged students, who outperform their peers nationally in English and mathematics. We are proud that inspectors recognised not only the strong outcomes our students achieve, but also the culture we have built together, one where young people feel known, supported and encouraged to succeed. We've already come a long way, but our ambition still burns bright. We are absolutely focused on making sure that every student leaves Thistley Hough with the knowledge, skills and confidence to thrive in the future.     Our 2026 Sports Awards Evening was a fantastic celebration of the outstanding achievements, commitment and sporting success of our students throughout the year. The event was extremely well attended by students, families, staff and guests, creating a wonderful atmosphere as we came together to recognise the hard work and dedication shown across all areas of school sport. Throughout the evening, awards were presented across a wide range of sports, highlighting excellence at both participation and performance levels. Students were recognised not only for their sporting achievements but also for demonstrating leadership, resilience, teamwork and a positive attitude. Individual awards celebrated those who have consistently excelled and represented the school with pride, while certificates were presented to many students in recognition of their effort, improvement and contribution to school sport. The evening provided an opportunity to reflect on another successful year for the PE department, with students competing in numerous fixtures, tournaments and events. It was inspiring to see so many young people rewarded for their commitment and enthusiasm. We would like to congratulate all award winners and certificate recipients, and thank parents, carers and staff for their ongoing support.     Our U15 cricket team travelled to face Denstone College in what proved to be a highly competitive and closely contested fixture. Despite ultimately falling to a narrow defeat, the boys produced an excellent performance that they should be extremely proud of. Batting first, our team showed great composure and determination at the crease. In the field, the players worked tirelessly, displaying good energy, sharp fielding, and disciplined bowling throughout the innings. The match remained in the balance for long periods, with both teams competing hard and refusing to give an inch. Denstone College eventually edged ahead and secured the victory, but the result does not reflect just how close the game was. Most importantly, the students represented the school superbly with their attitude, effort, and sportsmanship. They demonstrated resilience, teamwork, and a willingness to fight for every run until the very end. Well done to all involved.     U15 Rounders Success for Team THA! Thistley Hough Academy proudly participated in the U15 Rounders Competition this week, and what a fantastic performance it was! Despite six members of the squad playing up an age group – and in some cases, two age groups – the team rose to the challenge brilliantly. They secured impressive victories in two of their three matches and narrowly lost the third by just half a rounder. Finishing joint first overall, the team unfortunately missed out on a place in the City Finals, with the winner having to be decided on total rounders scored across the tournament. It was the closest of margins, but an outstanding achievement nonetheless. Considering the significant age gap for more than half of the squad, this performance demonstrates tremendous skill, determination, and team spirit. We could not be prouder of the players and the way they represented the Academy. Well done, Team THA – a magnificent achievement and a credit to the school. We would also like to wish our Year 7 and Year 8 rounders team the very best of luck in their final on Friday 10th July. We're all behind you! #ThistleyHoughAcademy #CreativeEducationTrust
