'Scrum-thing' Special for Our Sports Facilities We are pleased to announce that, thanks to the generous support of the Rotary club of Stoke on Trent , our school has secured funding for the installation of new combined football and rugby posts. This significant improvement will enable all students to participate in competitive home fixtures, enhancing opportunities for both football and rugby within our curriculum and extracurricular provision. We extend our sincere thanks to Tony Marsh, Chief Executive Officer of Newcastle (Staffs) Rugby Football Club, and Roger Whittaker, both valued members of the Rotary Club, for their instrumental role in making this possible. Their commitment to promoting sport and supporting young people is greatly appreciated. We are deeply grateful to the Rotary Club for their generosity and continued investment in the development of our students. #ThistleyHoughAcademy #CreativeEducationTrust

In the lead-up to Christmas, the Year 11 students participated enthusiastically in the Mr Tomlinson Cup, a much-anticipated event that provided a welcome break from their studies. The competition saw Team 2 emerge victorious, clinching the trophy after a series of thrilling matches. Their teamwork and determination were commendable, showcasing the spirit of friendly rivalry that the cup embodies. Notably, the tournament featured a student referee who demonstrated exceptional leadership skills throughout the competition. This role not only enhanced the fairness of the matches but also provided a fantastic opportunity for the student to develop their confidence and decision-making abilities in a dynamic environment. The lunchtime Power League, which runs daily, follows a league format culminating in the cup competition. This structure allows Year 11 students to engage in healthy competition while letting off steam during a crucial year in their academic journey. The Mr Tomlinson Cup serves as a reminder of the importance of balance between work and play, fostering camaraderie and resilience among the students. #ThistleyHoughAcademy #CreativeEducationTrust

Every single Year 7 student went to watch the local Panto, Cinderella live at Stoke Regent Theatre as part of the Personal Development Day! Students and Staff really enjoyed this remarkable experience and were swept away by the joys of live theatre. Students were inspired by a live Teams meet and greet with the backstage crew who spoke to our students about the range of jobs and career opportunities in the Theatre industry and they even gave students a tour around the backstage of Stoke Regent Theatre - a truly exciting moment! Students also worked closely with their PD Tutors to learn about the Theatre Industry and the exciting opportunities open to them in school working on the 'Newsies' school play next year! #ThistleyHoughAcademy #CreativeEducationTrust

As part of our Year 8 Personal Development Day, students were eager to engage and participate in developing real life skills through the hands on First Aid workshop sessions delivered by the wonderful St Johns Ambulance Team. Students learnt a wide range of skills, such as, resuscitation and were able to practice this on the day. Students also took part in a range of Keynotes from The Prevent Guy, a local ambassador for all things PREVENT related who educated our young people around online safety, radicalisation, the risks of AI and how to use it safely, and Knife Crime. It was great to see students actively asking a range of questions about our local context and gaining a wealth of information that will keep them safe in the wider community and support them in making responsible decisions. #ThistleyHoughAcademy #CreativeEducationTrust

On our first Personal Development Day of the year, every Year 11 student engaged in a 1 to 1 interview with external employers and real life professionals. This helped them to build confidence, resilience and the skills needed to be successful in the real life interviews that unlock their future opportunities developing responsibility and promoting respect. Year 10 students spent the day working with Talk the Talk to discuss their career pathways and develop their communication skills partaking in interview style deliberate practice. This help students by building their confidence throughout the day to stand up in front of students to present their ideas and utilise the skills that the workshop had taught them. Thank you to all of the external visitors who supported with our KS4 students' preparation for Post-16. #ThistleyHoughAcademy #CreativeEducationTrust

Our fabulous Modern Foreign Language department celebrated Spanish culture with our Year 8 students on the Personal Development Day by transforming the Main Hall into a Spanish haven. Our students were transported to a Spanish tapas experience that allowed them to use their language skill to order food, exchange greetings, communicate with each other, and participate in a range of quizzes and activities. Students were treated to potato bravas, chorizo, hummus, Spanish omelette, non-alcoholic sangria amongst a range of other culinary delights. #ThistleyHoughAcademy #CreativeEducationTrust

Our amazing Year 8 students worked with a local charity called Gingerbread as part of our Personal Development Day to create 25 Christmas shoe boxes full of gifts, sweet treats, and toiletries that have been passed on to single parent families in the local community that are currently living in poverty. Gingerbread is a wonderful charity who do a lot of work supporting young parents and infants locally who really need that extra care and support at this time of the year. Our students actively took it upon themselves to donate, contribute gifts and create the shoe boxes with their PD Tutors and Mrs Gillies which ultimately taught them all about the importance and power of working together to promote social responsibility! Thank you to all of our school families who contributed - these gifts are very much appreciated. #ThistleyHoughAcademy #CreativeEducationTrust
