To help support both parents and students with access to homework, we’re excited to let you know that we’ve now partnered with Sparx as a homework platform for all three core subjects, English, Maths and Science.

For all year groups the regular homework ‘diet’ consists of weekly homework set on the Sparx platform for core subjects. These homework tasks will be set on a weekly basis on the following days. There may be additional homework set for other subjects on a less regular basis to support with consolidation and retention.

Sparx Maths, Reader and Science help every student to achieve success as they adapt to the needs of each individual and set questions that are at the appropriate academic level based on the curriculum.

The aim of homework is for consolidation of previously taught knowledge and skills, to help transfer powerful knowledge into long-term memory.

How do they log in?

• Students log in at:

  • sparxreader.com
  • sparxscience.com
• Once students have logged into one of the Sparx platforms, they can transfer to the other subject sites by the menu on the top right of their homepage.
• Students can also log in through the THA Portal from the top of the Academy website, allowing them to access their own school Portal by logging in with their school email address and password.

What devices are supported?

• Your child can access Sparx on any device that connects to the internet with a web browser.

How can I support my child with their homework?

• Sparx adapts to each student’s ability level, so it’s important that you don’t help too much, e.g. by answering questions for them. This can lead to Sparx giving homework that is too long or hard in the future.
• We recommend letting students answer each question themselves, and you can give help if they are stuck with the support and follow-up questions.
• You can also help to provide a quiet space for your child to focus on their homework each week.

How can I monitor my child's homework?

• You are able to keep track of the homework your child is doing by clicking through the link to the Parent Portal in your Sparx weekly homework email.
• On the Parent Portal, you can choose to view homework progress for any of the Sparx learning platforms your child is using.

What support is available at Thistley Hough Academy?

• Homework club is open to all students from all year groups.
• It takes place in Room 227 Monday – Thursday from 2:45 - 3:45pm.
• Maths classrooms are open every lunch time for additional Sparx support.
• Students have full access to computers to be able to complete homework online.
