Excellent student attendance and punctuality is essential in ensuring that students make good academic progress. As such, it is an expectation that all students attend the Academy punctually each day, unless under exceptional circumstances.
As an Academy, we closely monitor both attendance and punctuality to school. Students, who are late regularly, will be required to serve one hour’s detention after school on a Friday.
It is a minimum expectation that students’ attendance is at least 98% over the academic year: with good attendance being rewarded. The importance of this can be seen in the table below:
|Student attendance %||Number of day absent per average week||Number of full days absence per academic year||Number of weeks absent per academic year|
|80%||1||38||8 weeks (this exceeds half a term)|
For those students, whose attendance is low, the Academy discusses strategies for improvement with our Education Welfare Officer, who carries out home visits and meets with parents and carers. Legal action is then taken where attendance fails to improve.
I am sure that you recognise the importance of attendance and the impact that poor attendance has upon the education of your child. Should you have any concerns regarding your child’s attendance, please contact the Academy directly, in order that we can best support you and your child.
With best wishes
