Careers at Thistley Hough Academy
The school’s motto declares ‘My open eyes desire the truth’. We seek to develop pupils who are lifelong learners, seek answers and are successful both academically and personally.
As such we pride ourselves on the careers information, advice and guidance that we offer all of our pupils. This has meant that as in previous years, all of our pupils went on to either further education, employment or training. In order to be this successful, pupils are given access to a wide range of possibilities whilst still at school.
All year 10 pupils complete work experience placements and in many instances, this has led to further prospects for pupils. We have forged strong links with local employers, sector specialist advisers for example health careers, STEM subjects, and advisers specific to the engineering industry, specialist local colleges and universities to offer pupils a greater variety of options and 2015/16 will see an extension of these links.
Additionally, students benefit from a wide range of school-based careers events, for example our annual Careers Evening for students and parents for students in years 9, 10 and 11. As the only school in the city with a full-time careers worker, we believe in supporting our pupils even after they leave us. Below is a pie chart which illustrates the current destinations of our 2015 leavers.
