World Book Day Information - Thursday 4th March 2021 - Thistley Hough Academy

Dear Parent/Carer

World Book Day Information – Thursday 4th March 2021

As previously shared, we have decided that we want to celebrate World Book Day this year with a day of reading and to be, as far as possible, computer screen free on this day.  We have been busy preparing some engaging activities which will allow everyone to immerse themselves in the word of literature and will be suspending the normal timetable on Thursday 4th March to highlight the importance of reading.

World Book Day serves as a worldwide celebration of books and reading, acknowledging the fact that reading for pleasure is the single biggest indicator of a child’s future success. As a result, we want to see more children with a life-long habit of reading for pleasure and the improved life chances this brings them.

Activities will include a range of disciplines: exercises from ‘The Writing Deck’, focusing on creative writing; the commercial aspects of literature- book promotion and marketing, blurbs, storyboarding, adaptation and so forth; as well as a nod to the Arts in considering illustration and illumination, typography and lettering in supplementing the focus on literature.

The timings of form time have been slightly adjusted to accommodate World Book Day and to provide students time to invest in the planned activities.  Form time will be from 8:30am until 8:55am, where students will be briefed by the form teachers about the outline of the day and where all resources will be placed for them to access.

If your child is currently attending school, they are of course most welcome to attend as normal, however we will also be using the day for some staff training to prepare for reopening, so if you have any flexibility and can accommodate your child working from home on this day, this would help us as it would mean that all staff could take part in the training at the same time.

Finally, we will be again contacting all parents/carers regarding the planned staggered return to school in the next couple of days; thank you for your patience as I just finalise the plans.

Yours sincerely
