Important Testing and Reopening Information
I thought it would be helpful to give you a very brief update on our plans based on the Prime Ministers announcement yesterday.
As you know, we will start fully reopening the Academy from Monday 8th March 2021 and we anticipate that we will stagger our return to school so that we can offer everyone a COVID 19 lateral flow test before they return to school. The option to take a lateral flow test will significantly enhance the safety of everyone in our community and we are very keen that all our students take up this offer so we can keep each other and our families safe.
We have been regularly testing staff who have been attending school and the whole testing process has gone very smoothly for everyone involved, (and even those of us who were not too keen have found the experience to be quite bearable).
To help us to plan the testing efficiently, please complete the attached form via this link by 3:00pm on Friday 26th February 2021. Once we have this information from you, we will be able to let you know when your child will be able to have their test, and on which day their year group will be returning to full time education in school. Once the first round of testing is complete, all students in all year groups will be expected to attend school in person, other than those who are Clinically Extremely Vulnerable.
We have decided that we wanted to celebrate World Book Day this year with a day of reading – and to be, as far as possible, screen free on this day. We have been busy preparing some engaging activities which will allow everyone to immerse themselves in the world of literature and will be suspending the normal timetable on Thursday 4th March 2021 to highlight the importance of reading. If your child is currently attending school, they are of course most welcome to attend as normal, however we will also be using the day for some staff training to prepare for reopening, so if you have any flexibility and can accommodate your child working from home on this day this would help us as it would mean that all staff could take part in the training at the same time.
Finally, I will be in touch with the details of our return to school early next week; just bear with me whilst I digest the guidance and put the necessary plans into place. In the meantime, many thanks for all your support of your children’s remote learning – I am incredibly grateful to you all. Every lesson counts and your children’s hard work and resilience through this second period of partial school closure will stand them in good stead for their return to school.
With best wishes
